Asssingnment #7

The quote by Jennifer James is pretty cool and it makes sense to me. It’s one of the longest quotes that I have ever read or seen. I used to think that quotes were supposed to be only one or a couple of sentences long. I guess not any more, now I know that quotes can be as long as you want them to be. For me a quote just has to make sense. I had a hard time understanding it at first but then Mr. Leh explained it to me. After that it made total sense to me. To me the quote means that you should care more about yourself than others. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t care about other people I’m just saying you need to care for yourself first.
Every day I wish I could have a bunch of money not for me but for my family. If I had all of the money that I wanted I would use it to help out my parents. My parents could have so many things that they want, but they don’t. They don’t because they waste all of their money on raising me, my little brother, and sister. My parents are always trying their best to get us whatever we want. We always try to not ask for much because we know that money is a little short. We don’t ask for much because we understand that they try their best so we are satisfied with what we get.
I look around my neighborhood and always see these happy families enjoying their life. And I tell myself why our family can’t be like that. I mean our family is happy and everything but sometimes I’m not so sure that my parents are satisfied by what they have. They are almost always brought down by not having enough money to buy what they want. They buy us what we want but what about them. That’s why I would want a bunch of money so I could buy them what they want and so we could be a satisfied family.
I sometimes envied those types of families because I would our family to be like theirs. To be happy and satisfied by what they had and by what was around them. But now after I read that poem by Jennifer James talking about jealousy I don’t envy those types of families anymore. That poem helped me understand that I won’t get anything out of envying them. Like Mr. Leh said that shows that they have power over you and that’s true because the family probably doesn’t know anything about you and all of your attention towards them. Now I think that I might be able to succeed on what I want if I pay more attention to myself. Thanks to this quote I learned a little bit more about myself. All I can do now I keep on working hard and wait for that one day to come with high hopes.
